Onsite Construction & Building Services Engineering

T Levels in Onsite Construction and Building Services Engineering

After successfully delivering the first-generation T Levels in Onsite Construction and Building Services Engineering (BSE) for the past three years, City & Guilds has made the difficult decision not to re-tender for these two specific T Level contracts. Our decision not to re-tender for these T Levels does not affect any of the other T Level contracts we currently deliver. As a trusted partner in T Level delivery, City & Guilds remains one of the UK's largest providers and has recently secured several other contracts in Engineering & Manufacturing, Management & Administration, and Agriculture. You can read more about this in our news article.

City & Guilds has developed the Technical Qualification (TQ) for Onsite Construction and Building Services Engineering as part of the Construction T Level route.

How are the T Level TQs structured?

Both the Onsite Construction and Building Services Engineering TQs are split into two main components: the Core, which is assessed by externally set written exams and an Employer-Set Project (ESP), and an Occupational Specialism (OS) which is assessed by a synoptic assignment.

The following Occupational Specialisms are available within each TQ:

Onsite Construction

  • Bricklaying
  • Carpentry & Joinery
  • Painting & Decorating
  • Plastering

Building Services Engineering

Standalone occupational specialisms:

  • Gas Engineering
  • Electrical and Electronic Equipment Engineering
  • Electrotechnical Engineering
  • Protection Systems Engineering

Combined occupational specialisms:

  • Plumbing Engineering and Heating Engineering
  • Heating Engineering and Ventilation
  • Refrigeration Engineering and Air-conditioning Engineering

The government has published final list of qualifications that will have 16-to-19 funding withdrawn for new starts from 1 August 2024 due to overlap with wave 1 and 2 T Levels (Construction & the Built Environment, Digital, Education & Childcare and Health & Science).

Full-time education (under-19) route to becoming a qualified electrician

Inspired by the Electrical Training Routes framework, City & Guilds mapped its courses and qualifications to industry recognised career routes to show how learners can follow the City & Guilds way to become a qualified electrician and progress their career with our industry leading CPD courses.
