Electric Vehicle Charging (2921)

Last Updated: 08 Nov 2024

As the UK drives toward a net-zero economy by 2050, decarbonising transport is a top priority. With transport being one of the largest contributors to CO2 emissions, electrification is critical.

By August 2024, there were over 1.1 million battery-electric cars on UK roads, reflecting a 71% increase in EV registrations from 2022 to 2023. The UK now has around 66,779 public charge points across 34,570 locations. However, to meet future demands, this number must rise to 500,000 by 2030.

The rapid expansion of EV charging infrastructure is driving an urgent need for a skilled workforce to install and maintain these systems safely and efficiently. It’s crucial to equip professionals with the necessary skills to meet the demand.

Launching September 2024: New EV Charging Domestic Installation Qualification (2921-34)
This refreshed qualification has been developed with input from employers, professional associations, and providers. It’s aligned with the latest industry standards, National Occupational Standards (NOS), and the Electrician Plus trademark requirements.
